Son of a bloody bitch!!! ARGH!

Look up to see if my pay has gone through, only to find a $56 charge to Cab Accounts Australia in Brunswick for a taxi trip i took today... WTF!? I BEEN AT WORK ALL DAY!!!

SO first thing i do, call National Australia Bank (NAB) and tell them. I get put through to the fraudulent transaction department and got the most laid back/nice person:

Me: I did not bloody take any $56 taxi trip! ARGH!

Call centre guy: Yeah, hate to say it mate, but this has been happening more and more lately with this company popping up on statements. We'll cancel your current card immediately, send you a new one and get those funds back.

Me: Wow really?

CCG: yeah mate

Me: Oh cool... well thanks!

Moral of the story? Don't use your credit/debit cards in taxis in Melbourne! The drivers are bloody bastards and cheats!* Stick to cash. Deman reciepts... if their eftpos isn't working, your fare is nul and void.

I swear the world is conspiring to giveme a brain anurism from stress! *falls over*

Grrr.... as someone who LOVES Earth Science, it pains me when I read things people are saying:

1. My uncle says volcanic ash won't kill you, its just like the stuff you see after a fire
2. Yellowstone is overdue for an eruption

There was more but I'm tired and cranky and only feel like dealing with these two

1... WRONG! STUPID MAN *smacks you down* WTF!? Are you serious!? Where the hell do you think volcanic ash comes from!!?? IT'S ROCK! It has been so severely fragmented by the sheer power of a volcanic explosion that, to our eyes its soft and harmless. I can't remember the last time i saw a soft and harmless rock (there was this gypsum formation that told me not to take lollies from strangers but that's beside the point).

Under a microscope, you'd see that volcanic ash is sharp, abrasive and very unfriendly looking! As you inhale it, the moisture in your lungs converts this dry ash into a cement, which sticks to the lining of the lung. Put simply, if you're under an ash cloud for long enough, you'll drown in this cement. I'd call that pretty bloody dangerous.

2. The big clue that this twit had no idea what he was talking about (though toted to be a 'respectable geologist'), was when he said "Historically, Yellowstone erupts ever 600,000 years or so and it has been 620,000 since the last eruption. We're well overdure". WRONG!!

600,000 years is a friggen geological time period, its such a massive period of time that history is irrelevant. To put it in perspective, human civilisation (what we term early humans, ancient Egyptians, Byzantians... all that crap) stretches back, at best, 10,000 years. Thats about 1.6% of 620,000 years. Humans weren't ever around as a species when this volcano last blew up! The time scale involved is anything but historical...

Also, since when does 3 events constitute a pattern predictable enough to say 'we're overdue'. Here's what i would say is overdue:

A pregnancy lasting 10 months - based on thousands of millions of 9 month gestation periods prior in every other woman
Old faithful erupting 4 hours after the previous - when it has been erupting 45-120 mins after previous eruption since its discovery in 1870
Not having Oporto's on Sunday after having a Double fillet meal (with extra chilli) every Sunday for the past 4 months

THESE are things we can reliably say are OVERDUE. Not a volcanic eruption which, as far as we can tell, has only occurred 3 times in more than 2 million years!

I shake my head in shame and wonder how long it will be before this little geologist becomes a sellout like most others :(

No wonder friggen airliens in the US are going bankrupt!!!

Badge: Hi there, I've booked an award ticket with miles, and was wondering if I could get the miles back and pay for the ticket in full

United Call Centre Douche: I understand sir, that'll be a fee of $150 for cancelation plus the cost to rebook the flight

Badge: No you misunderstand, I don't want to cancel, I want that fare, I just want to pay for it rather than get it for free with my miles

UCCD: Yes sir, but i need to cancel the booking so you'll be charged the full $150

Badge: Uh huh... even though I'm willing to pay the $400 for the full fare!? Are you serious?

UCCD: Yes sir, its United policy

Badge: Ok, thanks... I can see why United is in danger of going bankrupt again

UCCD: Thank you sir, now can i offer you any car rental deals for your...

*Badge hangs up*

Ugh... Seriously! I mean... does anyone else see the logic in this???

I know I'll be dredging up an old issue, but when are people going to learn the beauty of gun control?

America, again, endured another mass shooting this past week, and I'm mortified that its already fallen out of headlines in the US!
It has become such a common occurrence that people seem to accept it and even defend it!

"Yes its sad, but life goes on, and we need guns to stop people doing this! We need to protect ourselves from these crazy unstable people" (Random Twitter Page)

Surely I'm not the only one who sees the folly in such thinking?

Australias last mass shooting was in 1996, 35 people died at the hands of a mentally ill Tasmanian.  Aside from the fact that it was the single worst lone gunman killing spree in history, the public outcry was deafening.

Questions like "how could he have access to such weaponry given his mental state" and "Why are our laws so lax" were asked, and the Prime Minister acted, the 1996 National Agreement on Firearms was created

Under the Constitution, the Commonwealth does not have power to enact gun laws so John Howard petitioned state governments to adopt the reforms and, bowing to public pressure, they did.

Not being able to confiscate property without compensation, the government started the 'Buy Back' scheme, All semi automatic rifles, .22 rimfires, semi-automatic shotguns and pump-action shotguns (to name a few) were destroyed through the scheme.

Now, I'm sure some people are trumpeting the right to own firearms, for protection etc.... But here are some points to take on board:

1. Between 1991 and 2001, firearm related deaths HALVED
2. Theft of firearms has dropped 75% (down over 3000 incidents) since 1996
3. No mass shootings have occured since 1996
4. Australias murder rate has fallen to 1.2 per 100,000 (2008)

Yes I am well aware that this does not prove my case, i really doubt there is anything that i can say that hasn't been said by a million other people.

Please do not think I am crowing about Australias fantastic murder rate either...  almost 300 people were murdered in Australia last year.  While yes, there has been a massive decline, as a society that abhores the death penalty, one murder is too many.

Now, I am NOT anti-gun ownership.  I believe, in the right hands, they can be used properly when treated with care and respect. Also, I'm more than aware that there are various cultural differences in most countries, but at what point do you stop and say, "This is deffinitely a problem we need to fix" ?

OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!! AGAIN!?

Jesus, now its French Vogue feeling the wrath of the PC cane...

http://www.theage.com.au/world/french-vogue-embroiled-in-blackface-controversy-20091014-gwdb.html

Ok, so now its changed from, parodeing black people by painting yourself black, to just painting yourself black full stop. WTF!? So white people cannot aspire to be tanned incase someone gets offended?!

Americas Next Top Model (during season 4) had the constestants swap ethnicities... no one had a problem! Ugh I think this is all Harry Connick Jnr's fault, had no one kicked up a stink, no one would have had a problem with the above photo.

There is NOTHING wrong with that picture! Sure she looks dopey, but offensive!? One website said "What Klein and Roitfeld should know … is that painting white people black for the entertainment of other white people is offensive in ways that stand entirely apart from cultural context,"

First off, I don't think that only 'white' people, read French Vogue.

Second, this isn't entertainment! But of course some people... "France and Australia may not have the United States' particular history of minstrel shows … but something about the act of portraying a white woman as black ought to sound an alarm, somewhere."

Three, Hallehluja there are people who think along my lines! “The American cultural imperialists of the Anglosphere are out in force again. The same dickheads tried to get a Nigerian production stopped in the west end because the actors were whiting up. Not everybody who attempts to portray somebody whose skin is a different colour than their own is Al f---ing Jolson.”

Does anyone wanna say that this ISN'T the slippery slope i mentioned?

Today is gonna be bad, can tell.

Fell out of bed, stubbed my toe on the skirting board, nearly went A over T in the shower (thanks Nate for leaving the soap on the floor), bit my tongue while having brekky and managed to poke myself in the eye with my glasses... All this before lunchtime... fun times ahead *grumbles*

*sigh* Is this PC gone to a new extreme?

I mean, ok, I didn't find the sketch funny/entertaining... but I sure as hell didn't find it offensive! Is this another example of "American Preciousness" when it comes to a taboo topic? If it had been a black person painting their face white and acting the fool, would it have been as bad? An Aboriginal parodying John Howard? Of course not! Double Standard Alert!!!

This sketch was done 20 years ago on TV and no one had a problem with it. Hey Harry, you're right, if this were America it might not have been on TV... but this is Australia mate.

Meh is all i can say

CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brilliant Grand Final, everything you want in a match. St Kilda played well, but the better team on the day won.

Final Score:

Geelong Cats 12.8.80 d St Kilda Saints 9.14.64

I had to work today and i was screaming at the radio! God, I'm losing my voice now and I'm pretty sure i've done some damage to my big toe (bending over backwards on the floor) but i don't care. I am just so friggen beside myself!

PS. For those who question AFL's place on the world stage... you find a one day sporting match that attracts a crowd of 100,000 people to one stadium... wiki it!

[mood | scared]

I just awoke from the most unsettling dream i think i have ever had... in retrospect, it makes absolutely no sense, but it was the last images that were the worst. Warning, its a little odd and scary!...

I woke up on a train with my sisters, Rebecca and Rachel, parents not in sight. A bunch of other people (about 20 or so) were on the train also, just coming to. The train wasn’t moving, but the engine seemed to be running.

Looking out the window I realised I was in Geelong, my home town. But it looked empty. No one was on the streets, some houses were on fire, car doors were open and askew in the middle of the road as if the drivers had slammed their feet on the breaks and abandoned their vehicles in haste.

A man suggested we get the train moving, maybe whatever made everyone else run away, would come back.
At this point i woke up and it was about 2.30am. I was trying to figure out what the dream meant, why was i on this train with these people? Where were my parents? What had happened to the town? Wanting to know, i fell asleep again.

Back on the train, heading towards Melbourne... No one could seem to remember what had happened. One woman said “I remember taking a shower before climbing to bed... and that’s it!”. Suddenly we were in the city (you know when dreams seem to jump around a bit but you don’t notice?). Melbourne was the same as Geelong, some buildings on fire, cars abandoned, no one anywhere.

Walking away from Southern Cross Station, we encountered a guy wandering around who was speaking gibberish. He said something along the lines of “the monsters wouldn’t take me but they’ll take you”. Profoundly unsettled and even more puzzled, we ran back to the train and made a group decision to leave the city. But where would we go?

Here i woke up again, 4.30am now... i still had no idea what the dream was about, but i was very... well, i dunno. I was sad my parents weren’t there but i was also scared of falling asleep because i didn’t WANT to know what happened... how could it be a happy ending?

Back on the train, we headed to Sydney... thinking ‘maybe it had just happened in Victoria’. My eldest sister Rebecca decided she wanted to go back to Geelong and look for our parents. Rachel and I pleaded with her “No! Stay here, please! We need you” but she got her own train and left us. Oddly enough, we weren’t sad and went on trying figure out what all these people had in common.

Arriving at Circular Key in Sydney... we found the same emptiness... we saw a few people wandering the streets, but they were like the man in Melbourne: broken inside, crazy, uttering nonsense. Somehow we got to the University of New South Wales, it was abandoned aswell, “no answers anywhere it seemed, even at a University!” I said out loud

Suddenly my phone rang and it was my old boss “Tim where are you!?” “I don’t know” i replied. “You need to get here soon, we’re so busy i need all my staff on” (It was at that point i semi-realised i was dreaming). The video on my phone lit up and there was Paul, running around serving people in this massively oversized version of a cafe i used to work in. “Paul! Theres no one left in Melbourne, get out” “Are you crazy!? And leave all these hungry customers!? HELL NO!” and he hung up. The customers he was serving... i never got a good look at them as they were silloheted but they didn’t look human...

Leaving the station, the majority of The Group wanted to keep heading North; their reason being that rural Queensland would be the perfect place to hide. Many people dissented saying they wanted to head South again, “Lets go back to Victoria, it’s our home”. We set off again in no defined direction, just being out of the city seemed to make it better. I began writing peoples name on a black board. “Tim, Rachel, Rebecca, James, Mary, Peter...” someone said “They’re all biblical names... what’re the odds that everyone here has a name from the bible?” my phone rang again. I answered it “Hello?... Hello?!”. All i could hear was sobbing on the other end, i could hear my old dog barking and my sisters chicken clucking.

“Rebecca!? Is that you!!? REBECCA!” she replied “Did you hear those noises last night? I think some ones in the house...” I looked at my phone and saw her room. It looked like she’d slept on the floor with her mattress and bed pushed against the door. She went to the door and let out a horrified squeal, 2 people walked into her room as she backed towards the window. They weren’t people at all, they looked like large yellow goblins.

She backed onto the wall, sobbing saying “please no...”, Scully was wimpering and Rachel and I were screaming at the phone as the lead goblin drew two large swords with circular hooked blades at the tips and slashed them downwards...

That’s when i realised i was sitting up, in my own room yelling “NO!” My housemate burst into the room and asked me ‘what was wrong’, “nothing “i said, “just a bad dream...”
I am incredibly on edge at the moment, I’ve never had a dream that had shaken me so much that i’ve woken up screaming before! I still have no idea what its supposed to mean or why my brain would conjure up such a macabre situation... I’m still shaking...

Ok so my flight is Monday morning (United 840 MEL-LAX) and I'm trying to figure out how I'm gonna get my suitcases, laptop AND birdcage (Dora is staying with my parents while I'm in America) to Southern Cross to catch the train to Geelong...

Option 1) Take taxi - Easiest option but most expensive. Plus, i still need to drag everything from the street to the platform (after buying a ticket too).

Option 2) Braving the tram. Cheaper than 1, but MUCH more difficult (i only have 2 arms!)

Option 3) Getting my housemate to help drag my arse to the station! As cheap as option 2 but don't want to put Nate out :(

Suggestions?
